| Description of program: | This program is voluntary, and the client must be willing to accept responsibility for the actions that led to police involvement (pre-charge), or criminal charges. Upon successful completion of the assigned sanctions, the charges will either be withdrawn, or stayed for post-charge referrals, and no charges will be laid for pre-charge referrals. Records of participation will be kept for a period of two years, and can be brought to the Court’s attention if the client re-offends during this time. |
| Program duration: | Typical cases resolve within three court appearances, and in less than 90 days. |
| What to expect: | After an intake meeting, sanctions are determined. Sanctions may include, but are not limited to, community service, restitution, charitable donation, peace bond and/or MAG-funded programming. All programs are facilitated by Laurencrest staff, including: Stop Shop Theft Anger Management Substance Awareness Counselling, Support & Intervention. |
| Discharge process: | Once completion of the program is confirmed, a discharge letter is drafted and sent to the Crown Attorney’s office (post-charge), or to the Police (pre-charge). This letter indicates whether or not the individual has successfully completed the program and their sanctions. |
