Description of program: | This program supports young people navigating the legal system, while dealing with mental health and behavioural issues. The program provides guidance throughout the court process, connects youth with mental health services and treatment programs, along with other community resources. Involvement with legal professionals, advocating for fair and compassionate treatment within the courts, and ultimately ensuring the young individual receives appropriate support and interventions to address both their legal and mental health issues. |
Program duration: | From charge to sentencing |
What to expect: | Worker will establish effective linkages between the youth, the youth justice court (including Crowns and Defence) and appropriate mental health community resources, functioning as a short-term bridge between systems. |
Discharge process: | A discharge meeting is conducted to review the goals established during the intake, and determines whether or not they were adequately met. The client will receive verbal confirmation of file closure. A discharge report is filled out, as well as a letter confirming psycho-educational programming completed, sentencing information, and an anonymous youth feedback survey. |
